Twitter user @KrisTosAplSauce recently published a thread of tweets that might make you reconsider the plots of some classic films. He paired films with similar plots and characters that came out in the same year. Some of the movies in questions have pretty specific plots which might have you thinking like us, “Is this more than just a coincidence?” Check them out and let us know what you think.

Friends With Benefits and No Strings Attached definitely have some definite similarities, made funnier by the fact that Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are now a couple in real life.

It’s pretty hard not to see some similarities here…

Things are definitely starting to look familiar.

Even the cover graphics look the same!

These even feature the same actor!

Were insects just a trending topics for kids in 1998?

What are the odds these studios picked the same classic fairytale to remake on accident?

There are definitely some common themes here…

I’m starting to think they even hired the same art director.

This phenomenon crosses tons of different genres and studios.

These titles are like when someone asks to copy your homework and you say, “Yeah but change the wording a little bit.”

Are you starting to see it yet?

I’m sure now that it has been brought to your attention you will begin to see this theme with lots of different movies. There are certainly tons more examples. As it turns out, the explanation for this is that often when writers go around trying to pitch their ideas to studios, the studio will take the idea without actually hiring the writer. The writer may then get hired at another studio where they decide to produce the film to completion. I can’t believe it had taken us this long to realize this pattern but it sure is fun to think up other examples.
